MH RX LTD Care when you need it

Diagnosing minor medical ailments quickly

It is no secret that the NHS is overburdened, overwhelmed, understaffed and underpaid as such, it should come as no surprise that waiting time to be given a GP appointment can exceed two weeks. In addition, even with these long waiting times, often appointments are missed or inconvenient for those working the same hours as GP practice opening hours. Together, these factors are resulting in an overcrowded A&E department with waiting times often exceeding 3-4 hours.

What we do

A new Solution

A new solution has come to light, utilising the experience and education already present in community pharmacists, topped up with an Independent Prescribing Diploma. Such qualifications enable community pharmacists to offer a service mimicking that of General Practitioners, whereby common and repetitive GP appointments are no longer necessary.

Rather, it is now possible to visit your local pharmacy, make an appointment with the independent prescriber, often there and then, and receive a thorough consultation, diagnosis and prescription. This would allow GPs to refer the simpler cases to nearby pharmacists, allowing GPs to address more difficult cases with less time constraints.

A new prescribing service

This service is now being offered here and consists of a private and confidential consultation whereby the independent prescriber will examine and assess the problem/symptoms. An appropriate diagnosis is then made, followed by the relevant prescription or hospital referral. Furthermore, any prescriptions will be dispensed at the pharmacy in question saving invaluable time.

The independent prescriber will only prescribe within their scope of competency and have the same duty of care as any healthcare professional. The independent prescriber is also responsible to notify you of all events of any consultation.

Conditions examined

Conditions examined include but are by no means limited to upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, sinus infections, skin infections, eye infections, nail infections, psoriasis, asthma reviews, urine infections, diabetes management, weight loss management, blood pressure management, erectile dysfunction, viral and bacterial infections, chest infections, all vaccinations, and ear, nose and throat infections. The cost of the consultation itself is £20, plus the price of the prescription if issued.

We are excited about the launch of a new and enhanced service within community pharmacies as part of Pharmacy First. The clinical pathways component empowers pharmacists to provide valuable advice to patients and dispense NHS medicines, including some prescription-only medications under patient group directions (PGDs), where clinically appropriate. This service addresses seven common health conditions, namely sinusitis, sore throat, earache, infected insect bites, impetigo, shingles, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women. To ensure that pharmacists are well-equipped to deliver this expanded level of care, MHRX is offering a comprehensive one-day face-to-face training program. This training covers all aspects of the service outline, including clinical training and examination components. MHRX is committed to enhancing the skills and knowledge of pharmacists, enabling them to confidently and competently administer the Pharmacy First clinical pathways. The training program is available at a cost of £150 per pharmacist. The face to face clinical and examination day will have both theory and practical components. You will also be assessed against a comprehensive competency log. Training is carried out by a specialist pharmacist with over 13 years of experience. Please book by sending an email to [email protected] with your name, GPHC No, pharmacy and the date of training. We will be sending out a confirmation.
